The shaped kidney-form top creates a particularly refined and distinctive silhouette, setting the table apart from more conventional occasional furniture of the period. Fine ebony and satinwood stringing is carefully inlaid throughout, providing elegant definition and contrast while demonstrating the attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship invested in the piece. The table is raised upon four slender tapered legs, creating a light and beautifully balanced profile. A shaped lower shelf provides useful additional display space while echoing the flowing lines of the top and visually uniting the composition. Particularly appealing is the satinwood itself, displaying intricate natural figuring, warm golden tones and the subtle lustrous quality for which this highly decorative timber is prized. The darker ebony detailing provides a sophisticated contrast against the lighter wood. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. Measuring only 34 cm deep, this is a particularly versatile and highly decorative period table. Its combination of rare satinwood, elegant kidney-shaped form and delicate inlay makes it ideally suited as a side table, lamp table or occasional table within a drawing room, bedroom or sophisticated period interior.
