A rare and highly decorative pair of mid-19th-century Bohemian ruby cut-to-clear glass goblets, dating to circa 1840 and displaying the elaborate cutting, gilding and architectural proportions associated with the finest Biedermeier-period glassmaking. Each substantial goblet is formed with a rich ruby-red upper bowl, intricately cut with broad bands of geometric hobnail decoration revealing the clear glass beneath. Below, elongated faceted panels are embellished with delicate gilt foliate scrollwork, creating an elegant contrast between the deep ruby glass, brilliant clear crystal and warm gold decoration. The bowls are raised upon unusually elaborate architectural stems. Large clear hexagonal knops with rounded faceted edges are separated by gilt hexagonal sections, leading to substantial six-sided spreading feet. The upper surfaces of the bases are further decorated with finely painted gilt foliate motifs. Particularly impressive is the cutting to the undersides of the bases, where deeply worked geometric hobnail and star motifs form a complex radial composition reminiscent of later Russian-style cut-glass patterns. The considerable weight and depth of the cutting give both pieces a jewel-like quality. The goblets are characteristic of sophisticated Bohemian glass production of the period and have been attributed to the Moser or Harrach tradition. They are unmarked, and the attribution is therefore stylistic rather than documented. Their combination of ruby casing, cut-to-clear decoration, faceting and delicate gilding makes them particularly striking examples of 19th-century Central European decorative glass. Presented as a pair, these goblets have considerable presence whether displayed in a collection of historic Bohemian glass or incorporated into a decorative interior.

Both goblets exhibit very small nibbles and minor roughness around several points on the undersides of the bases, visible primarily upon close inspection. There is age-related wear and loss to the gilding, with one goblet displaying somewhat greater gilt loss than the other. No major damage is apparent.
