The tall back is richly carved throughout with intricate decorative motifs, creating an impressive architectural composition and demonstrating the considerable skill of the craftsman. The depth and complexity of the carving give the piece exceptional visual presence. Substantial armrests frame the seat and contribute to the strong, sculptural character of the settle. The hinged seat lifts to reveal a generously proportioned internal storage compartment, providing useful concealed space while preserving the traditional appearance of the piece.
