Volther and manufactured by erik jørgensen, dating from the 1960s. Combining beautifully aged black leather with a warm solid oak frame, the chair is an excellent example of the understated elegance, craftsmanship and functionality associated with danish mid-century modern design. The generously proportioned chair features broad upholstered arms and loose seat and back cushions covered in supple black leather. The cushions are filled with a combination of feather and foam, providing a particularly comfortable and relaxed seating position while retaining the clean architectural character of the design. The upholstered body is supported by a substantial exposed solid oak frame with simple squared legs and horizontal rails. The contrast between the rich black leather and honey-toned oak gives the chair a strong sculptural quality and makes it equally suited to contemporary, scandinavian and traditional interiors. The original leather has developed an attractive natural patina through age and use, adding considerable character to the piece. It has recently been professionally cleaned and conditioned, preserving its softness and enhancing its appearance.
