Dating from approximately 2008–2009, these elegant vases combine hand-blown glass with heavy-gauge sterling silver. The wide silver collars measure approximately 1⅝" high and provide a particularly luxurious finish to the neck of each vase. The glass is beautifully decorated with an engraved fuchsia and foliage design, with the clear glass catching and reflecting the light. Each vase has a substantial solid-glass foot, giving the pieces excellent stability and an attractive sculptural profile. The silver collars carry hallmarks including 925, the sheffield assay marks and carr's maker's mark. The date letters j and k indicate production around 2008 and 2009. The vases are believed to have been produced in the stourbridge glassmaking area of england, an area historically associated with fine english art glass production. Their curvaceous baluster form, wide silver collars and substantial bases give them a sophisticated contemporary appearance, making them equally suitable for display as decorative objects or for use with flowers. A particularly attractive pair for collectors of english silver, contemporary art glass and carr's sheffield silver, or as an elegant wedding or anniversary gift.
