Lalique’s signature treatment contrasts satin-frosted surfaces along the torso, limbs, and streaming hair with smooth, polished clarity across the contours and circular base. The crystal possesses a soft, smoky grey hue that shifts in tone depending on the background and ambient lighting conditions. René Jules Lalique originally introduced the Chrysis composition in March 1931 under factory catalogue number 1183, creating it as a motor car mascot during the golden age of Art Deco automotive design. In the post-war period, the glassworks adapted the model for domestic interiors, offering it as a luxury paperweight and decorative cabinet sculpture. This updated version omitted the deep mounting groove previously cut into the base for vehicle radiator fittings, replacing it with a solid, flat plinth. Manufactured at the Lalique glassworks in Wingen-sur-Moder, Alsace, France, the underside of the base is inscribed with the wheel-engraved scrolling signature 'Lalique France' alongside its factory model designation. The piece stands 12.5 cm high, with a maximum width of 14.5 cm from the knees to the tip of the hair, and weighs approximately 613 grams. The specific grey glass formulation and box styling place the manufacture of this example in the 1980s, well before the design was discontinued in the early 2000s. The statuette remains in excellent, near-mint condition, retaining smooth frosted surfaces and crisp detail throughout the face, hair, and body without chips, flea bites, or scratches. It comes complete with its original grey factory presentation box, which features custom-contoured interior foam matching the curving profile of the sculpture, together with the matching protective upper foam insert. Displaying the dynamic fluid movement characteristic of 1930s French glass design, this solid crystal figure serves equally well as an architectural desk weight or an illuminated showcase piece.
