The tall backrest is beautifully enriched with detailed carved decoration, giving the settle considerable visual presence and demonstrating the quality of craftsmanship invested in its construction. Further carving across the lower section creates a cohesive and richly textured appearance. The generously proportioned seat incorporates a practical lift-up mechanism, opening to reveal a substantial internal storage compartment. This concealed space provides excellent storage for blankets, linens, books or other household items while preserving the traditional appearance of the settle when closed. The piece is raised upon sturdy square-section legs, providing a strong and stable foundation appropriate to its substantial construction. Particularly appealing is the oak itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout.
