Executed in solid silver, the piece combines traditional English tableware design with the accomplished craftsmanship associated with Sheffield silversmithing. The stand is beautifully proportioned with a generous serving surface raised above a pedestal base, creating a graceful and balanced silhouette. Its polished silver surface provides an attractive reflective finish while allowing the quality of the precious metal and construction to remain the principal decorative features. Designed for presenting cakes, fruit, confectionery or other delicacies, the elevated form gives the piece an attractive presence when positioned at the centre of a dining table or displayed on a sideboard or console. Produced by Wheeldon Brothers in Sheffield, the piece is identified as solid silver and British in origin. Its 1974 date places it firmly within the later 20th-century tradition of Sheffield silver production. A sophisticated and versatile piece of British decorative silver, equally appealing as functional tableware or as a display object within a collection of English silver.
