The hinged top opens to reveal a thoughtfully arranged interior with spacious storage compartments, providing practical organisation for a variety of smaller objects while preserving the compact proportions of the piece. The oak displays attractive natural figuring and warm colour throughout, contrasting beautifully with the copper surfaces. The copper has developed an appealing aged character and patina that adds considerable depth and individuality to the design. Practical carrying handles are fitted to either side, allowing the box to be repositioned more easily and contributing to its utilitarian period character. Raised upon a substantial plinth base, the box has a solid and beautifully balanced appearance despite its relatively compact dimensions. Presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin. An unusual and highly versatile decorative object, suitable as a storage box, collector's chest or distinctive tabletop accessory within traditional, industrial or eclectic interiors.
