An elegant British wine ewer or claret jug by Hill Brothers, combining a finely cut glass body with solid sterling silver mounts and hallmarked in Sheffield for 1997. The original listing confirms the Hill Brothers attribution, sterling silver composition and precise 1997 date. The substantial cut-glass body is worked with decorative faceting that catches and reflects the light, creating a brilliant surface particularly suited to the presentation of wine or other beverages. The clarity and weight of the glass provide an attractive contrast to the polished silver fittings. The sterling silver mount forms an elegant transition between the glass body and pouring section, giving the piece the refined character associated with traditional British claret jugs. The combination of transparent crystal-like glass and highly polished silver creates a timeless appearance that works particularly well within both traditional and contemporary interiors. Although made in the late 20th century, the jug follows the long-established tradition of British silver-mounted glass wine vessels. Hill Brothers produced this example in Sheffield, one of England's historic centres of silversmithing. The seller categorises the piece as a pitcher/jug and confirms the silver components as solid silver. An impressive decorative and functional piece, ideal for serving wine or displayed within a drinks cabinet, dining room or collection of British silver and glass.
