The table features two drop leaves, one positioned to either side, allowing the surface to be expanded considerably when required. When closed, its compact proportions make it particularly convenient for smaller spaces or occasional use. A useful single drawer provides discreet storage for smaller household essentials and retains its original knob handle, preserving the established character of the piece. The table stands on graceful tapered legs, creating the refined and well-balanced silhouette associated with georgian inspired furniture. The legs are fitted with brass castors, allowing the table to be repositioned easily while adding an attractive period detail. A particularly appealing feature is the fine ebony stringing, which provides an elegant decorative contrast against the warm tones of the mahogany and highlights the quality of the cabinet work. The mahogany itself displays beautiful natural grain, rich colouring and an attractive matured patina throughout, giving the table considerable warmth, depth and established character. Very well made and of fine quality, the table demonstrates accomplished craftsmanship through its carefully constructed drop-leaf mechanism, refined stringing, tapered supports and balanced proportions. Its versatility is one of its greatest attributes. With the leaves closed, it can serve beautifully as a compact side or lamp table, while opening both leaves increases the depth from 51 cm to 96 cm, creating a considerably larger surface for entertaining or occasional dining. The combination of two drop leaves, original drawer handle, ebony stringing, tapered legs and brass castors makes this a particularly attractive and practical example. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable georgian style pembroke table combining refined decorative detailing, practical versatility and beautifully matured mahogany within an elegant traditional design.
