An exceptional 19th-century English display cabinet by the renowned furniture makers Maple & Co., finely crafted from mahogany and distinguished by its richly carved decoration, elegant cabriole legs and beautifully fitted green velvet interior. The cabinet is centred by a single glazed door, providing an elegant protected display area while allowing the contents to remain clearly visible. The door retains its original handle, preserving an attractive element of the cabinet's period character. Internally, three shelves provide four generous display levels, offering excellent space for presenting fine porcelain, ceramics, glassware, silver, collectibles or objets d'art. Particularly attractive is the interior, which is lined in rich green velvet. The deep colour creates a sophisticated contrast against the warm mahogany and provides an especially effective backdrop for displaying decorative objects. The exterior is enriched with intricately executed carved detailing throughout, demonstrating the high standard of craftsmanship associated with quality Maple & Co. furniture of the period. The cabinet is raised upon graceful cabriole legs, creating an elegant and beautifully balanced silhouette while reinforcing the classically inspired character of the design. Particularly appealing is the mahogany itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and a mature patina developed through generations of age and use give the timber considerable richness and character, naturally accentuating the carved surfaces. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin.
Standing 166 cm high and 123.5 cm wide, the cabinet has considerable decorative presence while its relatively shallow 43.5 cm depth makes it practical for a variety of interiors. The combination of Maple & Co. manufacture, extensive carved decoration, cabriole legs and a green velvet-lined glazed interior makes this a particularly desirable example of late 19th-century English cabinetmaking. Ideally suited to a drawing room, dining room, library or sophisticated period interior.
