The front is arranged with three useful drawers, comprising two smaller drawers above one larger drawer. Each retains its original decorative handles, adding attractive period detail while providing practical storage for stationery, correspondence and smaller personal items. The most distinctive feature is the concealed red leather writing surface. Designed to slide out when required, it transforms the compact side table into a practical writing table or occasional desk. When closed, the writing surface is discreetly incorporated into the piece, allowing it to retain the proportions and appearance of an elegant occasional table. The red leather provides a handsome contrast against the rich mahogany and gives the writing surface a traditional character particularly appropriate to the design. The table is raised upon four elegant tapered legs terminating in spade feet, creating a refined and beautifully balanced silhouette. This combination of tapered supports and spade feet reflects the enduring influence of Georgian and neoclassical furniture design upon early 20th-century English cabinetmaking. Particularly appealing is the mahogany itself, displaying attractive natural grain, rich colour and striking figuring throughout. An established patina further enhances the depth and character of the timber. At only 77 cm wide and 48.5 cm deep, the table is exceptionally versatile. It provides useful drawer storage and a dedicated writing surface within a relatively compact footprint, making it particularly suitable for interiors where a conventional desk would occupy too much space. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A distinctive and highly functional piece of English furniture, equally suitable as a writing table, occasional desk, side table or sophisticated accent piece within a drawing room, library, study or bedroom.
