The hinged top lifts to reveal an attractive and colourful interior, providing useful concealed storage while adding an unexpected decorative element to the restrained mahogany exterior. A single drawer is positioned beneath the box, offering additional practical storage and retaining its original brass handles, which complement the rich tones of the timber and preserve the period character of the piece. The stand is raised upon gracefully shaped cabriole legs terminating in traditional pad feet, creating an elegant and beautifully balanced silhouette. The mahogany displays pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout, complemented by deep, warm colour and an appealing aged character that highlights the quality of the timber. Well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. An unusual and highly versatile piece, suitable as a decorative storage box, occasional table, sewing or work box, or distinctive accent piece within a bedroom, drawing room or sophisticated contemporary interior.
