The round top provides a practical surface for a lamp, books, drinks or decorative objects while showcasing the attractive natural character and figuring of the mahogany. The table is supported upon an elegantly turned central pedestal terminating in a traditional tripod base. This classic arrangement provides excellent stability while creating a graceful and beautifully balanced silhouette characteristic of 19th-century occasional furniture. Particularly appealing is the mahogany itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and a mature patina developed through generations of age and use give the timber considerable richness and authentic period character. The simplicity of the design allows the quality of the timber, elegant proportions and traditional craftsmanship to remain the principal decorative features. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. At only 51.5 cm in diameter and 47 cm high, this is a particularly versatile period table, ideally proportioned for placement beside an armchair or sofa. It would work beautifully as a side table, lamp table, drinks table or decorative occasional table within traditional, country-house or sophisticated contemporary interiors.
