Very well made and of good quality, the table has an attractive compact form that provides a comfortable writing surface without occupying excessive space, making it particularly versatile for a study, library, hallway or living room. The front is fitted with two useful drawers, providing convenient storage for stationery, documents and everyday essentials. Each drawer is fitted with decorative brass handles, creating an attractive contrast against the richly coloured mahogany. A raised gallery extends around the rear and sides of the top, providing an elegant architectural detail while also helping to keep books, papers and decorative objects neatly positioned on the writing surface. The table is raised on finely turned legs, giving it a graceful and well-balanced silhouette while providing a sturdy foundation for everyday use. The mahogany displays beautiful natural grain, attractive figuring and rich warm colouring throughout. The matured timber gives the table considerable depth and character, while the relatively restrained design allows its natural beauty to remain a principal decorative feature. The combination of the raised gallery, twin drawers, decorative brass handles and turned legs creates a particularly attractive victorian composition without appearing excessively ornate. At 85 cm wide and only 46.5 cm deep, the table provides a practical workspace within a relatively compact footprint. A knee height of 58 cm further enhances its functionality as a traditional writing table. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable victorian mahogany writing table combining practical storage, elegant proportions and beautifully matured timber within a timeless 19th-century design.
