Very well made and of fine quality, this substantial bookcase provides an attractive combination of glazed display, drawer storage and enclosed cupboard space, making it both highly functional and visually impressive. The upper section features a beautifully glazed bookcase fitted with two adjustable internal shelves, creating three generous display levels. The adjustable arrangement allows the interior to accommodate books, china, glassware, collectibles and decorative objects of varying heights. Below the glazed section is a striking bevel-edged mirror, introducing an elegant decorative feature while adding a sense of light and depth to the overall composition. Beneath the mirror are two useful drawers, providing convenient storage for smaller household items while maintaining the balanced architectural proportions of the bookcase. The lower section incorporates a spacious double-door cupboard enclosing a single internal shelf, offering substantial concealed storage and further enhancing the practicality of the piece. Beautiful carved decoration appears throughout the bookcase, demonstrating considerable attention to detail and introducing additional depth and character without overwhelming the refined Victorian design. The mahogany has matured beautifully, displaying gorgeous natural grain, deep warm colouring and attractive tonal variation throughout. Its rich appearance provides an elegant backdrop for the carved decoration and glazed upper section. The bookcase stands on a substantial plinth base, giving the piece a sturdy and well-balanced foundation while contributing to its commanding presence. Standing an impressive 230 cm high, the bookcase provides considerable storage and display capacity while occupying a footprint of only 105 cm in width. For ease of transport and installation, the piece separates into two sections. The combination of adjustable glazed shelving, a bevel-edged mirror, practical drawers, enclosed cupboard storage and beautifully carved mahogany makes this an especially desirable example of Victorian cabinet furniture. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century Victorian origin. An outstanding Victorian mahogany bookcase combining exceptional craftsmanship, generous storage, flexible display space and beautifully matured timber within an imposing and highly decorative period design.
