The base is a horseshoe, with detailed sculptural elements such as the saddle, movable stirrups, crop and anatomical horses legs with horse shoes.

There is a fine gilded patina throughout but worn in some places to the metal base. This wear is consistent with its age.

Novelty desk and mantle objects with these themes were fashionable in Victorian times and were sold as gentlemen's accessories or gifts for people who rode, hunted, or followed racing. Place of origin is likely Europe. See less
