A highly collectible American art pottery vase from the renowned Roseville Pottery Company, executed in the iconic Pinecone pattern, model 709-10, circa 1930s.
This sculptural form features richly modeled pinecone and branch motifs in relief, seamlessly integrated into the vessel’s elegant, tapering silhouette. The surface is finished in a beautifully graduated green matte glaze with subtle tonal variations, accented by warm brown highlights that emphasize the organic detailing—hallmarks of Roseville’s finest production during the interwar period.
The design is attributed to Frank Ferrell, Roseville’s celebrated art director, who was responsible for many of the firm’s most enduring and commercially successful lines of the 1930s. The Pinecone pattern remains among the most recognizable expressions of American Art Pottery from this era.
Flanked by applied handles with naturalistic branch styling, the piece offers both sculptural presence and functional versatility—ideal for collectors and interior designers alike.
Executed in ceramic earthenware, the vase was molded and hand-finished, then enhanced with hand-applied glaze work, creating the rich tonal variation often associated with hand-painted decoration in American art pottery. The surface exhibits subtle tonal transitions and controlled glaze pooling, characteristic of Roseville’s art pottery production during the 1930s.
The underside bears the impressed “Roseville U.S.A. 709-10” mark, confirming authenticity and model.

The Pinecone line, introduced by Roseville in the mid-1930s, is widely associated with the artistic direction of Frank Ferrell, whose influence shaped the company’s transition toward richly modeled, nature-inspired forms during the Art Deco period. While individual pieces were not signed by Ferrell, the design language—characterized by sculptural relief decoration, organic motifs, and nuanced matte glazes—strongly aligns with his documented body of work at Roseville during this period.
