A beautifully handwoven basket attributed to Tonga weavers of the Binga region of Zimbabwe, featuring a striking geometric composition in natural straw and deep brown.
Sweeping bands of zigzag motifs surround a finely woven central medallion, anchored by a distinctive four-part square. Closely spaced, alternating light and dark stitches give the surface a lively sense of movement, while a dark wrapped rim frames the design.
Measuring 18 inches in diameter, its broad, shallow form makes an attractive wall display or a textural accent on a tabletop or shelf. Variations in the weaving reflect its handmade character.
Condition: Good overall condition with scattered frayed and split fibers, particularly near the rim, and minor irregularities in the weave. Please review photographs for details.
