The modelling emphasises broad, sweeping body planes and neatly folded legs, capturing the animal in a relaxed posture while paring back surface distraction to clean, continuous contours. Cast in earthenware with a hollow interior, the figure is coated in an even, high-gloss cream glaze. The monochrome finish pools slightly along the recessed seams of the folded limbs and the base edge, allowing natural room light to define the soft muscular curves rather than relying on painted enamel work. The plinth provides stable support, featuring crisp square corners and an unglazed resting rim. John skeaping originally created a celebrated series of ten stylized animal studies for josiah wedgwood & sons in 1927, reflecting the lean animalier aesthetic of the interwar period. While originally released in various stoneware and earthenware finishes, popular models such as this resting buck were reintroduced in later limited editions. Bearing the registered trademark backstamp, this production dates to circa 1974.

the interior of the hollow base is printed in black ink with the standard block-letter backstamp reading 'wedgwood®' over 'made in england'. The underside shows clean earthenware ceramic walls with light traces of old paper label adhesive along one resting edge. The figure stands 13 cm in height and measures 18 cm along the plinth base.
