A striking Spanish-style trestle desk (puente) in dark-stained elm, dating from the 20th mid-century and closely inspired by the baroque furniture of 17th-century Spain.
The heavy rectangular top rests on two sculptured lyre-shaped end supports, connected by a wrought iron stretcher featuring ornate volutes, rosettes, and decorative crossings. The frieze below the top houses three drawers with carved geometric facades — a pattern of crosses and diamond lozenges — fitted with wrought iron ring pulls and sculpted corner bosses. A delicate dentil moulding runs along the lower edge of the frieze, adding a refined architectural touch. The whole piece is executed in elm with a rich, uniform dark patina consistent with early 20th-century craftsmanship.
It will integrate beautifully into a home library, a study, or a living room with character — equally at ease alongside antique Spanish or Portuguese furniture, in a rustic French interior, or as a bold centrepiece in an eclectic or maximalist décor.
Condition is good overall, with traces of wear consistent with its age, adding to the authenticity and charm of the piece. The wrought iron stretcher and hardware are solid and intact.
