A captivating late 19th-century Chinese octagonal multi-tiered stacking presentation or wedding box. This ceremonial dowry vessel features a classic tapered, faceted silhouette enveloped in vibrant cinnabar-red lacquer.
The exterior features hand-painted liquid gilt panels and stylized cartouches depicting traditional scholars, celebratory figures, and finely balanced floral arrangements. The top lid opens to reveal a dark lacquer interior housing a uniquely sculpted, interlocking wooden structural divider. Authentic period black ink calligraphy characters are gracefully brushed onto the central handle ring of the lid. Balanced on a stepped octagonal base, the raw wood underside shows wonderful, honest aging. This highly decorative piece functions beautifully today as a unique tabletop centerpiece or statement vanity organizer.

The painted gilt details show light, age-appropriate rubbing and minor lacquer flaking along the high-relief faceted corners and edges, adding to its historic charm. • Structural Integrity: The wooden core remains sturdy, tight, and stable. Stacking tiers lock together correctly without warp. The raw wood underside shows normal drying lines and continuous patina expected of a genuine utilitarian piece of this age. Free of structural repairs or modern over-painting. less
