The top two drawers carry scrolling foliage and iron ring pulls. A wide middle drawer shows a long, curling vine, and three smaller drawers below it have shield-shaped panels. The sides flare outward in carved, scrolled brackets, and a shaped apron closes the base. The top is a framed plank with the soft shine of old wax.

It is compact, at 37 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 31.5 inches tall, and the drawers make it as useful as it is handsome. Use it as a dresser in a small bedroom, a chest in an entry, or a sideboard in a dining room. The scrolled sides catch the eye from an angle, so it works best where it can be seen as it is approached, and it looks well with plain walls and a single, simple object on top.
