generously proportioned and exceptionally comfortable, the chair features a broad shaped back, upholstered armrests and deep seat, all traditionally finished with individual brass studwork. The leather has developed a particularly attractive depth of colour, with subtle variations of deep burgundy and red giving the chair a wonderfully characterful appearance. The elegant painted timber frame is firmly inspired by 18th-century french louis xv furniture, with sinuous scrolling arm supports, a shaped and richly carved apron and cabriole legs terminating in beautifully carved feet. Floral and foliate carving appears throughout, while the distressed ivory painted finish provides a superb contrast against the dark oxblood leather and gives the chair the relaxed grandeur of an old french château interior. A wonderfully decorative statement armchair combining the elegance of the louis xv style with the comfort and practicality of a later vintage piece. It would sit beautifully in a drawing room, library, bedroom or study and is particularly well suited to a french château or english country-house interior. The leather displays attractive age-related character, colour variation and light signs of use, while the painted frame has a complementary aged and distressed appearance.
