A beautiful and iconic small writing desk, or typewriter table, designed by architect Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig around 1939–1940 and produced by Gino Maggioni. The model was originally conceived for the furnishings of Bocconi University in Milan, one of the world’s leading universities for economics and finance, and it is a classic example of 1940s Italian Rationalism. The desk’s clean, understated lines reflect Pagano’s Rationalist philosophy, which always favored simplicity of form and an intelligent use of materials. The warm natural tones of the solid wood are elegantly offset by the painted frame and the brass handles, while the drawers are precisely integrated into the structure. The result is a visual balance that catches the eye and has stood the test of time. Typewriter desks were highly specialized pieces of furniture and were always made smaller than standard desks, especially by today’s standards. For this reason, this piece also works beautifully as a console or side table: a charming, functional object with a genuine place in design history. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
