An impressive large-scale antique-style framed etching titled "Day Dreams," after a painting by American artist Percy Moran (1862–1935), etched by distinguished American engraver William Sartain (1843–1924). The work bears an 1888 copyright inscription from Fishel, Adler & Schwartz of New York.
This beautifully detailed composition portrays a contemplative young woman seated beside a leaded-glass window in a charming nineteenth-century domestic interior. Dressed in traditional attire with a delicate white bonnet and apron, she gazes thoughtfully into the distance, surrounded by the quiet details of everyday life.
A traditional spinning wheel, open book, potted flowers, rustic furnishings, and softly gathered window curtains contribute to the nostalgic atmosphere. Particularly noteworthy is the remarkable delicacy of Sartain's engraved linework, visible throughout the woman's features, intricately rendered textiles, architectural details, and subtle interplay of light and shadow.
The composition is presented in rich monochromatic sepia and charcoal tones, creating an especially elegant Old World appearance.
The lower margins bear the inscriptions "Painted by Percy Moran," "Etched by William Sartain," and the title "Day Dreams," together with the 1888 copyright attribution to Fishel, Adler & Schwartz, New York.
The substantial dark wood frame features richly grained molding, carved decorative borders, and handsome corner detailing. A generously proportioned warm cream mat complements the artwork's antique character and beautifully offsets the darker tones of the frame.
With its generous 41-inch width, this striking piece makes an elegant statement in an English Traditional, Victorian, American Country, or Ralph Lauren-inspired interior. Particularly suited for a library, study, sitting room, or above an antique chest or console.
Overall framed dimensions: 41 inches wide × 32.5 inches high.
Visible artwork dimensions: 30 inches wide × 20.5 inches high.
An evocative nineteenth-century composition combining American artistic history, finely detailed etching, and timeless decorative appeal.

Age-related toning is visible in the surrounding matting, with minor surface wear to the frame consistent with age. The reverse retains older backing boards showing wear and separation. Overall, a striking and well-presented piece with wonderful period character. less
