The leaf-and-vine carving wraps the sides in deep relief, and the interior is lined in the same warm wood. Throughout the 20th century, craftsmen in France kept traditional woodworking alive alongside modernism, and many workshops continued to make solid, honest pieces for everyday use. Its surface carries the gentle marks of age, never overworked or artificially distressed. Set on a console, mantel or shelf, it brings history and material honesty to a considered interior. See less
