Rare lounge chair with matching ottoman, designed by Tage Poulsen in Denmark. The Danish architect, furniture designer, and artist is known for his distinctive, powerful designs in solid wood, which are now considered part of Scandinavian Brutalism. Chairs with original ottomans by him are rarely found on the vintage market.
The frames are made of solid oak and follow a clear, additive construction principle: The armrests consist of horizontal planks, the supporting structure of vertical planks, while the backrest is formed by vertical struts. This creates a powerful, architectural design language in which every component remains visible and contributes to the overall effect – finely crafted yet deliberately archaic in form.
The seat and back cushions rest loosely on the frame and are crafted from thick, reddish-brown leather. Generously and luxuriously filled with foam, they offer exceptional seating comfort, and the warm leather provides a beautiful contrast to the light oak. The ottoman's cushion also rests loosely, allowing the stool to be used flexibly as a footrest or additional seating – together with the armchair, it creates an ideal reading nook.
We also have a second, identical armchair and the large coffee table from the same Tage Poulsen series – entirely screwless, made of solid oak, with a hinged top and storage space. We are also offering the pieces as a complete set in separate listings – a rare opportunity to acquire a complete seating group by this designer.
Condition: Very good vintage condition – sturdy oak frames with only minimal signs of age-related wear, leather cushions with a beautiful, natural patina. A rare piece of Danish craftsmanship for exceptional interiors. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
