This pair of vintage Chinese soapstone bookends feature mirrored phoenix birds amid intricate pierced scrollwork. Deep reddish-brown stone with lighter natural mottling lends warmth and depth to the sculptural carvings.
Each bird features an elegantly curved neck, incised feather details, and sweeping tail plumes that frame the upper edge. Shaped pedestal bases with decorative cutout feet complete the design, while flat backs rest against books.
Perfect chinoiserie accent for a library, study, or collected interior, equally attractive displayed as a pair of decorative stone carvings.

These imperfections would be expected from age and use as soapstone is a rather soft material. One of the bookends sits a bit unlevel. This is not damage but from the handmade nature of the item. less
