Popularized by Italian pottery workshops in the 1950s and 60s, this hand-crafted majolica and porcelain design features a Chinoiserie/Delftware style with classic cobalt blue and white floral and scrollwork motifs. The sculpture depicts an elephant with a ceremonial saddle supporting an obelisk adorned with oak leaf and acorn decorations, topped with a domed stopper. Signed "EF36 Made in Italy for Meiselman Imports," it is highly sought after by collectors of Hollywood Regency, Chinoiserie, and traditional Italian pottery as well as those of us that just like beautiful and interesting things.
