This unique, hand-turned bowl is a masterful example of Scandinavian modern design at its best. Designed and crafted by Swedish wood artist Gösta Israelsson during his acclaimed collaboration with Finja (Hässleholm's heel factory) in the 1960s.
The bowl is created from rotted beech (spalted beech), a living material where nature's own processes have left dramatic, inky black lines and marbling against the warm, golden wood. Israelsson pioneered the use of these defects in the wood to create graphic works of art.
The shape is organic and sculptural with a softly asymmetrical, undulating edge and generous volume that gives the bowl a strong visual presence in the room. It is a perfect complement to a minimalist or modern interior. This piece has an attribution mark,
