Decorated exclusively in underglaze cobalt blue and white, the dish presents an unusual variation on Kakiemon wares, which are more commonly associated with polychrome overglaze decoration. The composition features an asymmetrical arrangement of flowers, foliage and insects, with the decorative scheme continuing onto the reverse. Slightly canted edges give the dish an elegant profile. The reverse bears a good-fortune symbol associated with marks used on Kakiemon wares.
