Constructed from walnut and richly figured burr walnut, the credenza is further detailed with decorative inlay and ornate brasswork. Its long, low proportions are arranged behind three doors, creating a particularly elegant yet practical piece of Regency cabinet furniture. The glazed sections retain their original glass and open to reveal shelved interiors providing generous storage for books and display pieces. The backs of the shelves retain their original baize lining, which shows fading and marks consistent with its age. The credenza retains its original locks and key, together with its original back. The combination of burr walnut, inlaid decoration and finely worked brass details gives the piece a particularly refined appearance. A substantial and highly decorative example of Gillows cabinetmaking from the Regency period, retaining numerous original features and its identifying maker's stamp. The credenza is constructed as a single piece.
