Produced during the period when Grand Tour objects brought the imagery and artistic traditions of Classical Europe into fashionable Victorian interiors, the plate combines sculptural relief decoration with a compact and highly displayable form. The bronze has developed an attractive aged surface that enhances the definition and character of the relief work. The putti decoration gives the piece a distinctly classical character, making it an appealing example of Victorian Grand Tour decorative metalwork. Presented in excellent antique condition, with minor signs of age consistent with its period.
