The circular brass frame is decorated with twelve evenly spaced domed bosses, creating the appearance of traditional riveted maritime porthole construction. The brass has developed an attractive warm, mellow patina through decades of age and use, giving the piece considerable character. At the centre is the original convex mirror plate, which remains clear and reflective. Its curved surface produces the characteristic wide-angle reflection associated with traditional convex and butler’s mirrors. The reverse retains its original brass backing and hanging loop, preserving the integrity and period character of the piece. Inspired by traditional maritime portholes, convex brass mirrors became popular decorative features in British interiors during the mid-20th century. The combination of nautical influence, compact proportions and aged brass makes this an adaptable decorative piece for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Presented in good original vintage condition with an attractive naturally aged patina, minor surface marks and wear consistent with age. The original convex mirror plate and brass backing remain present.
