This is a magnificent, authentic studio art pottery lidded vessel crafted and hand-signed and dated by renowned California ceramicist Mindy Brunn in 1998. It is a prime example of late post-modern contemporary design, featuring an intricate, multi-colored geometric patchwork pattern.
Fired in the traditional Japanese-originated Raku production style, this sculptural lidded jar features a dramatic, heavily crackled "spiderweb" glaze. The distinctive black lines accentuating the fractures are the beautiful result of the smoky reduction chamber used during the intense firing process.
The vessel is masterfully executed using a traditional raku firing method, resulting in a striking, high-contrast crackle glaze. It beautifully blends vibrant segments of teal, mauve, purple, black, and cream, all seamlessly separated by hand-painted metallic gold piping lines. The matching geometric lid integrates flawlessly into the rounded form, making it an exceptional display centerpiece.
* Artist: Mindy Brunn
* Year: 1998 (Hand-signed "Mindy '98" on the side)
* Medium: Raku-fired ceramic / studio pottery
* Dimensions: Approx. 10.5" Diameter x 6.r" Height (with lid)
* Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Free of chips, cracks, or restorations. (Note: The surface crackle is an intentional characteristic of the raku glaze technique).
The vessel showcases a distinctly late-20th-century geometric abstract composition. It masterfully balances matte and glossy finishes in a quintessential Postmodern / Southwestern color palette of mauve pink, turquoise blue, and soft plum purples, all separated by hand-painted metallic gold-toned outlining. The matching geometric lid sits flush over a generous 4-inch wide mouth opening.
At a substantial 10.5-inch diameter, this large-scale piece serves as a commanding tabletop statement piece. It is a perfect centerpiece for Memphis Milano, Southwestern Modern, or Eclectic interiors.
Hand-signed by the artist Mindy ‘98 on the glazed lower section of the vessel.
