A striking Arthur Salm mid-century modern serving bowl combining warm wood with sweeping stainless steel panels. The dramatic geometric construction creates a sculptural form that looks equally compelling empty as it does in use.
The design is built around opposing curved planes, with rich wooden sections contrasting against the cool brushed metal. Viewed from different angles, the silhouette changes considerably, giving the piece an architectural quality characteristic of experimental postwar tableware.
The underside retains the Arthur Salm stainless steel maker's mark, providing a desirable identifiable attribution.
A particularly strong piece for a dining table, sideboard or kitchen island, whether used for serving, displaying fruit or simply treated as a decorative object. The combination of natural grain and polished industrial material makes it especially suitable for interiors influenced by Scandinavian, atomic-era and modernist design. See less
