A matched pair of Wedgwood creamware cornucopia wall pockets, made in England in the 1970s for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Each is a museum reproduction of a Georgian creamware original from the Williamsburg collection, and the two are mirrored, one facing left and one facing right, so they hang as a true pair.
The molding is crisp and deep. A woman's portrait, believed to be Queen Charlotte, sits in a rococo cartouche at the center, with flowers and foliage rolling down the horn to its curled tip. The glaze is a warm ivory, the kind of color creamware has when it catches window light. The shell-form rim is pierced for hanging, so they are ready for the wall.
Both are in excellent, near mint condition, with no chips, no wear and no crazing. Each is marked on the reverse, including the Williamsburg Cornucopia mark and the Wedgwood mark.
Fill them with dried artichokes and hemlock, as shown, or with winter greens, dried hydrangea, or a few stems of whatever is blooming. Lovely flanking a mirror, a doorway or a mantel. A good find for collectors of Wedgwood, Colonial Americana, Georgian decorative arts and museum reproductions.
Measures approximately 7.25" wide at the top and 10.25” long, each.
