Kuduo are traditional brass vessels made by the Akan peoples of Ghana, particularly the Asante, historically used to store gold dust, precious objects, and other valuables. Gold dust served as a form of currency in precolonial West African trade. Often elaborately decorated with geometric patterns and figurative designs, kuduo vessels also reflected their owners’ wealth, status, and artistic traditions. Some were used in ceremonial and courtly contexts. Beyond practical storage, a kuduo was believed to safeguard the owner's kra (spiritual life force). See less
