The back rises in a wide, softly arched crest rail, and slender horizontal rungs span the frame like the rungs of a ladder, which keeps the profile open and airy. Triple-pole arms curve forward in generous, rounded hoops and are bound at the joints with tight lashings of dark cane. A graceful, arched side brace sweeps beneath each arm, which adds rhythm and movement. The seat rests in a deep, hollowed wood tray with a bowed front rail, and the frame sits on a pair of curved, ski-like wood runners joined by dowel stretchers. This springer base gives the chair its gentle, gliding motion.
