This pair of vintage armchairs joins thick, water-clear Lucite with warm natural rattan in an airy, architectural frame. The legs, arms, stretchers, and back posts are all heavy Lucite rods, with a faint blue-green tint in the thickest sections, so the chairs seem to float. Each rod is joined by tightly wrapped rattan lashing, and the top corners are capped with sculpted, spiral-wound rattan knobs that read like woven finials. A slim rattan crest rail frames a tall, narrow back panel of woven cane in a basket-weave of chestnut, tobacco, and honey. The seat frame is built from stacked rattan poles that form a neat, banded apron, and each seat holds a loose, welted cushion in soft, suede-like taupe leather with a lighter piping detail. An H-shaped Lucite stretcher base adds stability and keeps the profile open. The golden rattan and glassy acrylic make a striking contrast of warm and cool, organic and modern. The pair is closely matched, and the lashing, rattan, and cane carry a mellow, aged patina. The look is tailored, sculptural, and effortlessly glamorous.
Light and versatile, these chairs suit a dining table, a desk, a bedroom seating area, or a pair flanking a console or fireplace in a living room. They complement Hollywood Regency, Palm Beach Chic, Coastal, Mid-Century Modern, and Organic Modern interiors. Each chair measures 22.5 inches (572 mm) wide, 16.75 inches (426 mm) deep, and 36.75 inches (933 mm) high, with an 18.5-inch (470 mm) seat height. Condition is very good: the original finish shows a warm patina on the rattan, the Lucite is clear with minimal surface scratches, and the cushions show light wear consistent with age. For care, dust the rattan and cane with a soft brush, clean the Lucite with mild soapy water and a microfiber cloth, and avoid ammonia-based cleaners. Condition the leather occasionally, and keep away from prolonged direct sun. Inquire today to secure this striking pair.
