A striking, finely curated pair of 1880s Imperial porcelain export wares from the esteemed Gardner Manufactory.
Featuring a deep, dramatic claret/oxblood red ground, this exquisite two-piece cabinet vignette includes a 9" display plate and a matching 5-5/8" handleless, footed piala bowl. Both antique pieces feature hand-painted, highly pigmented central floral reserves showcasing vibrant pink roses and delicate forget-me-not blue blossoms. The crisp white cartouches are framed by elegant, hand-painted gilded scrollwork.
Produced in Verbilki (Moscow region) during the final decades of the Czarist era, this specific colorway and handleless silhouette were highly prized luxury exports created for the Central Asian, Persian, and Ottoman trade networks.
Dimensions & Details:
• Plate: 9” Diameter x 1” Height
• Piala / Waste Bowl: 5.625” Diameter x 2.5” Height
Styling & Display Potential:
With their saturated jewel-toned borders and classical hand-painted details, these pieces offer immense graphic appeal for an upscale interior. They are beautifully suited for direct display on an open shelf, styled bookcase built-ins, or layered together as a historical centerpiece vignette in a grandmillennial, traditional, or eclectic space.
Authentication & Condition Report:
The undersides of both the plate and bowl bear matching, crisp overglaze red Imperial Russian Gardner factory backstamps. The marks include the imperial double-headed eagle, the St. George the Victorious medallion, and the accompanying hand-painted Arabic/Persian script export registry marks, dating production strictly to circa 1880–1890.
The pair is in excellent structural antique condition with absolutely NO chips, cracks, hairlines, or restorations. Minor, expected surface wear includes light rubbing/thinning to the gold gilt rim lines and minimal paint loss within the floral enamel motifs. A few standard, period-correct kiln features and minor glaze pockmarks are present on the porcelain bodies, which are entirely diagnostic of late-19th-century production and affirm the set's authentic antique heritage.
