The piece may have been produced by IVIMA (Indústria Vidreira da Marinha Grande), one of the most important Portuguese glass manufacturers of the second half of the 20th century, although the attribution cannot be confirmed.

The bowl is crafted in a rich, deep dark green glass, with a simple sculptural silhouette characteristic of mid-century decorative glass. Its rounded, understated form is particularly reminiscent of designs found in Italian and Scandinavian glassware of the period, reflecting the broader European modernist aesthetic that influenced Portuguese glass production during the 1950s and 1960s.

Marinha Grande has been at the heart of Portuguese glassmaking for more than 250 years. The industry developed there due to the availability of high-quality sand and the nearby pine forests, which historically provided fuel for the glass furnaces. The town became known as the “capital of glass”, developing a highly skilled tradition of glassmaking that continues to define its cultural identity.

IVIMA, founded in Marinha Grande in 1955, became particularly renowned for its decorative and utilitarian glass, including striking colored pieces that today are increasingly sought after by collectors.

This bowl remains in original vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. A beautiful example of Portuguese mid-century glass, it would work equally well as a small decorative object, catchall, or collector's piece.
