An antique French inlaid walnut desk / writing table dating from around 1800–1820.
It is predominantly walnut, with fine inlay of satinwood throughout. The borders have intricate patterns, and on each of the four top corners there is a unique inlaid floral image. There are also finely detailed inlaid patterns that run down each leg.
The gilt bronze ormolu mounts are seen throughout the desk, and on the front, back and sides they hold in place hand-painted porcelain plaques, which are possibly Sèvres.
There are two drawers in the front. The back has no drawers but is finished in an identical fashion, so this can be used as a freestanding item.
The desk has recently been restored and re-polished. The condition is excellent for its age.
