Vintage miniature ceramic bowl designed by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand, Sweden, dating approximately to the 1950s. The rounded bowl rests on a small raised foot, giving its open form a light, balanced appearance. Warm beige and brown glaze around the rim transitions into a mottled cream surface below, with subtle variations that reward close viewing. Its low profile offers a pleasing contrast to taller miniature vases. Display it on its own to appreciate the interior glaze or alongside other Scandinavian ceramics as part of a considered collection.
Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was a ceramic artist of Danish and Finnish parentage whose career spanned Denmark and Sweden. Born in Paris, he worked at Copenhagen’s Bing & Grøndahl and co-founded the pottery that became Saxbo before joining Rörstrand in 1931, where he served as artistic director. Known for his sculptural forms and richly varied glazes, Nylund created everything from miniature vases and bowls to large vessels and animal sculptures. His miniatures express that same attention to proportion and surface on an intimate scale and remain collected examples of Scandinavian mid-century design. His work is held in collections including Sweden’s Nationalmuseum.
