Table is beautifully constructed from contrasting mixed woods and displaying the geometric inlay associated with the celebrated woodworking tradition of Sorrento, Italy. The square top, measuring 20" x 20" , features rounded corners and an elaborate arrangement of contrasting wood veneers. A central geometric composition surrounded by radiating and banded patterns, creating an almost three-dimensional effect through the varying colors and grains of the woods. The top is raised upon an elegant turned pedestal standard, alternating between richly colored dark an honey-toned woods. The pedestal terminates in a tripod base with three shaped scrolling legs, each extending outward in a graceful serpentine profile. The underside of the table retains labels reading "Made in Italy" and "Disengo Variato" an appealing period detail supporting its Italian manufacturer.
In modern homes, this table is quite versatile due to it's moderate size and geometric designs. It can function as an end table, a lamp table, an occasional or an accent table. The table will complement Traditional, Transitional, English Country, French Country, Italianate, or European Eclectic interiors. The geometric decoration is particularly attractive today because, despite the table's age and traditional construction, the pattern has an unexpectedly modern graphic quality. The intricate marquetry allows it to function almost as a piece of artwork in contemporary spaces. See less
