This vintage pottery vase is a small, painterly piece of studio ceramics, with a full, rounded body that swells at the shoulder and tapers to a modest footring. A short, softly flared collar finishes the neck. The glaze reads like a watercolor sky, with washes of cerulean, cornflower, and periwinkle blue bleeding into creamy white and pale celadon. Fine, feathery streaks run vertically through the blue where the glaze flowed in the kiln, and tiny cobalt flecks scatter across the surface like mist. Near the foot, the glaze breaks into dripping, scalloped edges that reveal a band of dark, iron-rich brown clay, and a ring of raw, speckled stoneware shows at the base. The high gloss gives the glaze a glassy depth, while the exposed clay adds earthy contrast. Throwing lines and gentle asymmetry confirm the potter’s hand. Small glaze losses and chips along the rim and foot add a worn, collected character, and the crazing and soft patina feel honest and aged.
Compact and expressive, this vase suits a bookshelf, mantel, console, windowsill, or coffee table, alone or grouped with other ceramics. It complements Organic Modern, Coastal, Japandi, Asian Modern, and Eclectic interiors. The vase measures 4.75 inches (121 mm) wide, 4.75 inches (121 mm) deep, and 5.5 inches (140 mm) high. Condition is good: the glaze shows age-appropriate crazing and minor surface wear, with small chips and glaze losses around the rim and base, and the vase is structurally sound. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth and wipe gently with a barely damp cloth. Use it for dried stems, or add a liner before holding fresh flowers, since chips may let moisture seep.
