A beautiful piece of authentic early American craftsmanship, this antique early 19th-century hand-painted wooden clock dial face is a stunning example of period folk art. Originally crafted for an early Connecticut or Massachusetts mechanical clock—such as a classic Eli Terry style Pillar & Scroll shelf clock or a primitive tall case clock.
The dial face features beautifully preserved, hand-painted primitive floral motifs, showcasing delicate pink wild roses or camellias. The corner spandrels are framed by elegant, hand-painted gold borders, and a matching floral wreath circles the center hand mounting. The time is marked by bold, hand-rendered black Roman numerals set within crisp concentric chapter rings. Twin winding holes sit below the center.
Presenting an authentic weathered patina, the face exhibits wonderful age-appropriate paint checking, minor surface cracking, and light wear that underscores its storied history. It is highly collectible as a historical replacement component for an antique clock restoration project, or as a standalone piece of Americana artwork.
