This vintage Chinese vase is shaped in a classic octagonal baluster form, its bulbous body tapering gracefully to a flared, trumpet-shaped neck and a hexagonal base. The entire surface is hand-painted in rich cobalt blue underglaze against a crisp white ground, organized into distinct decorative registers separated by geometric key-fret borders. The neck is decorated with stylized scrolling foliate motifs and a classic Greek key band near the rim, while the shoulder features a repeating cloud-scroll and lotus bud pattern. The body’s main register is divided into eight paneled facets, each framed by a narrow blue border, with alternating panels depicting clusters of grapes on the vine, flowering branches, and additional foliate motifs rendered in confident, traditional brushwork. The painting throughout shows fine linework and shading typical of skilled hand-decoration, with the cobalt blue ranging from deep, saturated tones in outlined areas to softer washes within larger forms. The glossy glaze gives the surface a lustrous sheen that enhances the crispness of the blue-and-white palette, a hallmark of traditional Chinese export porcelain decorative traditions.
Display this vase on a console, mantel, or pedestal as a striking focal point, or use it to hold dried or silk floral arrangements. Its classic blue-and-white motif suits Traditional, Chinoiserie, Global Eclectic, Maximalist, and Transitional interiors. The vase measures 6.75 in / 171 mm wide, 6.25 in / 159 mm deep, and 13.75 in / 349 mm high. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and wipe with a barely damp cloth as needed; avoid abrasive cleaners that could dull the glaze. The vase is in very good vintage condition, with the original glaze showing well-preserved blue and white decoration, minor surface wear including slight glaze crazing consistent with age, and no visible chips or cracks; the piece is structurally sound and visually appealing.
